It’s not often that baking and biking come together in one event. Last week’s bike pitstop for Bike to Work Week was a perfect example. The last two years I’ve volunteered to bake bagels for a LACBC bike pitstop. This year we situated our pitstop across from Mohawk Bend on Sunset in Echo Park. Again, Julie, the proprietor of Mornings Nights Cafe supplied us with the iced coffee. Thanks Julie! Colin supplied the accoutrements, Wes, Matthew and I performed the hosting duties, while bike commuters supplied smiles, good stories and hungry bellies.
I made more jalapeño and cheddar, a few onions and everything bagels, because last year we quickly ran out of the jalapeño and cheddar ones. Well this crowd wanted the everything bagels. They disappeared quickly. I can never figure out people’s preferences when it comes to bagels. Next year I’ll go back to 50% jalapeño and cheddar and 50% everything else.
Thanks to all who stopped by during their commute and contributed to our pit stop with their fine company. We met one guy who bought a bike just for today and it was his first commute on a bicycle. I hope he has more enjoyable opportunities in the future to ride his bike to work.
